‘JNANADA PRATISHTHAN’, a Pune (Maharashtra)-based NGO, has made significant contributions to the cause of holistic development of students from the economically weaker strata of the society. Since 1979, Jnanada Prathisthan (known for its Pre-primary –Secondary school) has focussed on all-round development of students and consequently the community. With this same philosophy, Jnanada Prathisthan has embarked on a venture – the “Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Development and Research (IIEDR)” at Wagholi Pune. The premise of the “Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Development and Research (IIEDR)” is to provide solutions to the unemployment issues faced by students after schooling (SSC / HSC) due to lack of technical / hands on skill. Many students from the economically weaker strata of the society are unable to perform well in their SSC and HSC levels (50% students fail to complete their SSC level and 20% their HSC level) – consequently getting alienated from mainstream educational opportunities. For these students, there is also a significant lack of technical / hands on skills provided during schooling, thus minimizing their opportunities to obtain livelihood as skilled labour, and leading to a vicious cycle of unemployment and poverty.
