Lean Management is a set of management principles, tools, methods – and most importantly – values. They have been derived from the famous Toyota Production System, and embraced by other manufacturing as well as services organisations. Increasingly Lean management practices are being incorporated in local government, social sector and other areas too.
This course is being offered for the first time in India for NGOs and organisations in the development sector. Organised by STARS Forum
and hosted by ThoughtWorks
, the workshop will be conducted by Owen Berkeley-Hill
, visiting professor at the Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay. Owen was instrumental in implementing Lean at the Ford Motor Company in the UK. His profile is available at https://www.linkedin.com/in/owen-berkeley-hill-9855832/
The workshop will introduce the main principles of Lean – the 8 types of wastes that reduce efficiencies of processes and systems, and methods to help create a learning team/organisation e.g. value stream maps, kanban, A3 etc. The objective of the workshop is not just to introduce principles, but also help apply them at work i.e. learning by doing! Hence the workshop will include simulation games and group discussions to explore the concepts better and relate them to real-life situations. We strongly recommend each attending organisation to nominate two delegates – one senior leadership team member/executive/CEO plus one person involved in day-to-day operations.
A follow-up workshop will be offered after 4 weeks, to help delegates clarify doubts, show their applications of Lean methods and tools, share lessons learned etc.
